Strong Minded Inuit are a youth led initiative that create music and art in all forms based on their culture and using their language. Everything they do is committed to suicide prevention.
(Bottom Left) David Panioyak also known as J Breton, is 19 years old and originally from Cambridge Bay, Nunavut. He is an Inuk hip hop artist and music producer who advocates for anti-bullying and suicide prevention. JBRTN is a proud owner and founder of #SMI. David believes that coming together as a team, we can do anything we put our minds too and make positive changes by being leaders and role models for our people.
(Top Left) Akshuyulia Jackie Mitsima is originally from iqaluit Nunavut and he is 20 years old. He works with SMI doing Inuit games and also as a life experience story teller. He also works at Inuuqatigiit as a ECE and a youth worker assistant at an after school program. Akshuyulia believes everyone should be able to do what they love.
(Top Right) William Komaksiutiksak also known as Northern Knowledge is a rapper and a family man. He is the owner and founder of Strong Minded Inuit and uses his music to learn how tospeak his language of Inuktitut. He has been on multiple nationwide wellness tours and shareshis life experience through music, art, language, and culture. William believes in the power oflove and positivity and provides an outlet for youth to grow in these types of safe spaces.
(Bottom Right) Barry Takawgak is 20 years old and was originally born and raised in Pond Inlet, Nunavut. He is a smiley person who enjoys taking photographs. He is happiest when he isspending time capturing personal life moments and community events with his camera. Barry is a 2019 Spirit of the Capital Youth Award Winner in the category of Arts and Culture. He won this award for his Inuktitut language revitalization and photography skills. Barry strongly believes in the sober journey and has helped many of his friends find their way to this path of healing.
